Watching this very scene as a young boy in Kegalle, Sri Lanka, Shehan Malik experienced a profound revelation. "Last scene mein Salman Khan ke aankh se aansu nikal rahe hain. Woh scene dekhne ke baad hee maine decide kiya ki main actor banunga," Shehan recalls in fluent Hindi during an interview with TimesofIndia.com. Translated, he explains, "In the last scene, tears were flowing from Salman Khan's eyes. After watching that scene, I decided that I would become an actor." This pivotal moment ignited a passion that would shape his future career as an actor and content creator.
Learning Hindi Through the Magic of Bollywood
With his mother tongue being Sinhala, Shehan embarked on an unconventional journey to master Hindi. He never enrolled in formal language classes; instead, his education came entirely through immersive exposure to Bollywood cinema. "I started watching only Hindi movies," he shares. "And after that, even I didn't know how, one day I was standing in front of the mirror trying Salman Khan's dialogues. That's when I realised I knew a little bit of Hindi."
His linguistic skills developed gradually through repeated viewings of films, absorbing dialogues, songs, and emotional scenes. Today, Shehan's Hindi-speaking videos have gained significant traction on social media, showcasing his unique path to language acquisition.
A Shared Passion for Cricket and Cultural Observations
Beyond Bollywood, cricket played a substantial role in Shehan's upbringing. He played the sport at the junior level in Sri Lanka, even sharing the field with future international stars like Kusal Mendis and Niroshan Dickwella during his time at St. Mary's College in Kegalle. "Bachpan mein mai cricket khelta thha," he states, highlighting his five-year cricket career up to the U-19 provincial level.
Shehan's visit to India during the IPL 2026 season provided him with firsthand insights into the country's cricket culture. He attended matches in Delhi, Mumbai, and Hyderabad, noting the intense fan rivalries that contrast sharply with Sri Lanka's LPL. "I am so surprised at the Indian cricket fans," he observes. "How can 1.2 billion people be united for a World Cup, and within the span of 20 days, you start thrashing each other on social media? You start this huge Mahabharat thereafter."
One particularly striking experience occurred during a late-night exploration of Mumbai. "The time was 11 pm and I was exploring the streets of Mumbai and enjoying the nightlife," Shehan recounts. "While I was walking, I saw an Indoor cricket stadium. And guess what? You have only females playing cricket over there. I was like Oh My God! At 11 o'clock, without fear, they are playing at an Indoor net. I found it extremely different from what we get to see in Sri Lanka." He contrasts this with Colombo, where such scenes are less common.
Aspirations for the Future: Meeting Salman Khan and Bollywood Success
Despite his achievements and cultural adaptations, Shehan's ultimate dream remains deeply connected to his childhood inspiration. "I want to meet Salman Khan one day. I want to work in Bollywood," he declares with unwavering hope and ambition. His journey from a Sinhala-speaking child in Sri Lanka to a Hindi-fluent content creator illustrates the powerful influence of cinema and the universal appeal of Bollywood's storytelling.
