Ghosh described their collaboration as a robust and dynamic creative partnership that has significantly enriched the cinematic project.
A Journey Captured in Photographs
Posting poignant photographs from both the first and final days of the shoot, Ghosh emphasized that these images beautifully encapsulate the entire journey of their director–actor association. He expressed that the visual documentation serves as a testament to their evolving artistic connection throughout the production process.
Longstanding Admiration and First Collaboration
Ghosh revealed that his interest in Mukherjee's work dates back many years, originating from watching the acclaimed film Bariwali directed by Rituparno Ghosh, where Mukherjee appeared in a brief but memorable role. Over the subsequent years, Mukherjee has established himself as a prominent figure in Bengali cinema, featuring in numerous popular films. Familywala marks their inaugural collaboration together, making this project particularly special for both artistes.
Challenges and Creative Exploration
The director noted that the role demanded sustained exploration and continuous experimentation, leading him to frequently challenge Mukherjee during the filming process. According to Ghosh, the actor's impressive range, adept use of improvisation, and keen responsiveness to the material added new and unexpected dimensions to the script, elevating the overall narrative.
Theatre Background Informing Performance
Ghosh also highlighted Mukherjee's extensive theatre background with the renowned group Nandikar, which he believes profoundly informed the discipline and meticulous approach the actor brought to the role. This theatrical foundation contributed to a performance that is both nuanced and powerful.
On-Set Chemistry and Humorous Moments
With the shoot now complete, Ghosh admitted he will deeply miss their lively on-set exchanges and Mukherjee's infectious humour. He fondly recalled a light-hearted remark made during filming, where Mukherjee compared tackling a particularly demanding scene to facing a formidable bowling line-up in cricket, showcasing the actor's wit and camaraderie.
Actor Shiboprosad Mukherjee's Response
Responding to the director's heartfelt note, Mukherjee stated that Familywala is built around a distinct and compelling idea that audiences will engage with in their own unique ways. He added that the project provided him with the valuable opportunity to work closely with esteemed co-stars such as Swastika Mukherjee, Sudipta Chakraborty, Anusuya Majumdar, and Lily Chakraborty, describing the overall experience as immensely enriching and collaborative.
