In this detailed complaint, she has accused Udit Narayan, his two brothers—Sanjay Kumar Jha and Lalit Narayan Jha—and his second wife, Deepa Narayan, of participating in what she describes as a criminal conspiracy against her.
Background of the Marriage and Separation
In her application, the 61-year-old Ranjana identified herself as the daughter of Chandrakant Jha from Supaul district. She stated that she married Udit Narayan on December 7, 1984, following traditional Hindu customs and rituals. The following year, in 1985, Udit relocated to Mumbai to pursue his burgeoning singing career.
During this period, Ranjana claims she first learned through media reports that Udit had married Deepa Narayan. She alleges that whenever she confronted him about this second marriage, he either denied it outright or deliberately misled her about the situation.
Shocking Allegation of Unauthorized Surgery
The most serious allegation in the complaint centers on events from 1996. Ranjana claims that Udit Narayan and his brothers took her to a major hospital in Delhi under the pretense of providing medical treatment. During this hospital visit, she alleges that her uterus was surgically removed without her knowledge or consent.
She further states that Deepa Narayan was present at the hospital at the time of this procedure. According to Ranjana, she only discovered the removal years later during subsequent medical treatment, leaving her profoundly shocked and emotionally distressed by the revelation.
Additional Claims of Abuse and Neglect
Ranjana's complaint extends beyond the surgical allegations. She claims that in 2006, when she traveled to Mumbai, she was subjected to abuse by both Udit and Deepa Narayan and was prevented from entering their residence. Following this incident, she visited her in-laws' home in Nepal, where she says she was insulted and forced to leave.
Since these events, she has reportedly been living at her parental home. Ranjana mentions that she had previously approached both the Family Court in Supaul and the Women's Commission with her concerns. She acknowledges that Udit had accepted her as his wife and even submitted a compromise agreement, but she alleges he has failed to honor his commitments or provide her with any meaningful support.
"I Deserve Justice," Declares Ranjana
Speaking to media representatives, Ranjana explained her decision to approach the police once again, stating that repeated assurances had yielded no tangible results. "You all know that Udit Narayan ji repeatedly makes promises but does not fulfil them," she said. "He has not done anything till now, which is why I have come to the Women's Police Station. I deserve justice."
She elaborated on her previous attempts to seek redress, noting, "When we went to the Women's Commission, they initially refused to accept our complaint. After we submitted a written application, it was accepted. But even today, he continues to deceive me. Whenever he comes to the village, he makes the same promises again."
Ranjana emphasized her current vulnerable state, saying, "Nowadays, I am constantly unwell and need his support. But Udit Narayan is neither saying anything nor doing anything. He came to the village recently and left after making promises once again." She added that the matter is already pending in court and that although Udit has made appearances, no concrete action has been taken so far.
Police Response and Investigation
Anju Tiwari, the officer-in-charge of the Women's Police Station, confirmed that the complaint has been formally received. She noted that the incidents mentioned in the complaint date back nearly three decades, presenting certain investigative challenges given the passage of time.
Tiwari stated that the matter is currently under preliminary investigation. She clarified that an FIR (First Information Report) will be registered based on the facts that emerge from this initial inquiry, with further legal action to follow accordingly. The police are examining the allegations carefully before proceeding with formal charges.
