Varun Dhawan's Daughter Diagnosed with DDH, Actor Shares Journey

Varun Dhawan Opens Up About Daughter's Hip Condition Diagnosis

Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan and his wife Natasha Dalal, who welcomed their daughter in 2024, have shared a personal health journey concerning their child. In a recent candid interview, Dhawan revealed that his infant daughter was diagnosed with developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), a condition affecting hip joint development.

Understanding DDH: The Condition Explained

During an appearance on the Be A Man, Yaar! podcast, Varun Dhawan provided detailed insights into DDH. "My daughter was diagnosed with DDH, in which the hip slips out of the hip socket," the actor explained. He further described how this condition manifests physically: "One leg becomes longer or shorter than the other, because of which the walking becomes uneven. You can't walk or run properly."

The actor emphasized the long-term implications if left untreated, noting that "you get arthritis early, slip disc early" as potential consequences of the condition.

The Treatment Journey and Recovery Process

Dhawan shared that his daughter underwent a specific medical procedure to address the condition. "With one procedure they could put the hip back," he revealed. However, this treatment required significant follow-up care: "But she had to be in a spica cast. That means she had to be in cast for 2.5 months. Which is extremely difficult. To put her in anesthesia, and then she woke up in a cast."

The actor expressed relief that "now the cast is out" and mentioned his desire to document the experience, stating "I want to write a book on it."

Healthcare Perspectives: India vs. West

Varun Dhawan offered comparative observations about DDH treatment availability. "In the West, there is very good treatment for this right from birth, but in India it's not available everywhere to that extent," he noted. However, he balanced this by acknowledging that "there are also very good doctors here who take care of it."

Importantly, Dhawan clarified that his daughter's treatment did not require surgery, highlighting the effectiveness of non-surgical interventions when detected early.

Awareness Campaign and Parental Guidance

The actor made clear that his motivation for sharing this personal story was educational rather than seeking sympathy. "Varun asked his fans not to show him sympathy for this, as he shared about the situation just to make people in India aware related to DDH," the interview revealed.

Dhawan issued a crucial message to all parents: "The actor urged every parent out there to pay attention to their children's movement and go for a checkup if they see anything unusual." He emphasized that "DDH is curable if diagnosed during the baby's development," underscoring the importance of early detection.

Varun Dhawan's Professional Updates

Beyond this personal revelation, Varun Dhawan continues his successful film career. He was last seen in the film 'Border 2', directed by Anurag Singh, which achieved significant commercial success with over Rs 400 crore at the global box office. His next project is 'Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai', directed by David Dhawan, scheduled for release in June of this year.

This personal disclosure from one of Bollywood's leading actors brings important attention to a medical condition affecting infants, while demonstrating how celebrity platforms can be used to raise awareness about health issues that require greater public understanding and early intervention.
