Vikram Bhatt Granted Bail by Supreme Court, Released from Central Jail

Prominent Bollywood filmmaker Vikram Bhatt has been released from Central Jail after the Supreme Court granted him and his wife, Shwetambari Bhatt, regular bail in a high-profile fraud case. The apex court's decision marks a significant legal reprieve for the couple, who had been embroiled in allegations of financial irregularities related to a movie project.

Post-Release Temple Visit and Media Interaction

Upon his release on Friday, Vikram Bhatt immediately visited a Shiva temple, where he bowed his head in reverence. Speaking to the media outside the jail, Bhatt reflected on his time in custody, stating, "I have spent two and a half months in jail. I was not only hopeful, but also completely confident that the law and order here, the truth will definitely come out."

He shared a poignant anecdote from his incarceration, revealing that a fellow inmate had spoken to him about the soil of Mewar. "He told me that truth may be troubled in the soil of Mewar, but it cannot be defeated. I am leaving from here after applying the tilak of the same soil of Mewar, truth will always remain victorious here," Bhatt recounted.

Bhatt Describes Jail as His "Fifth Abode"

Discussing his two months and 11 days behind bars, the filmmaker described the experience philosophically. "This is the fifth abode. I am a devotee of Lord Krishna. I lived in the very place where Lord Krishna was born. Understand that I am coming out twice as good as I was before. Like Lord Krishna, I have to fight a new battle," he said.

Bhatt expressed unwavering faith in India's legal system, adding, "I don't want to say much about law and order. I have complete faith in the legal system of this country. Whatever justice is done will be in everyone's interest."

Background of the Fraud Case

The legal troubles for Vikram and Shwetambari Bhatt began in November 2025 when an FIR was filed against them at the Bhupalpura police station in Udaipur. The complaint was lodged by Dr. Ajay Murdia of Indira IVF, who alleged fraud in connection with a movie project intended to honor his late wife.

According to the FIR:

  • Dr. Murdia entered into an agreement with Vikram Bhatt's company to produce four films and documentaries in memory of his wife.
  • He paid an initial amount of Rs 7 crore with the understanding that additional funds would lead to films worth Rs 47 crore.
  • The complaint alleges that over Rs 30 crore was misappropriated through false promises, with investigations revealing the use of fake bills and documents.
  • The Udaipur Police arrested the Bhatts on December 7, 2025.

Legal Proceedings and Denial of Allegations

Vikram Bhatt has consistently denied the fraud allegations, claiming that the police were misinformed and that he received no prior notice about the FIR. His lawyer, Kamlesh Dave, stated to ANI, "Every payment was made in the knowledge of both parties. There were no such fake or bogus bills. The agreement was done to make two films first and another two on rolling finance."

The legal battle saw several developments:

  1. In January, the Rajasthan High Court rejected the Bhatts' bail plea and also dismissed their petition to quash the FIR, noting that the case involved not just breach of trust but also misappropriation of funds.
  2. The High Court directed that police investigations should continue.
  3. Earlier this week, Shwetambari Bhatt was granted interim bail, followed by the Supreme Court's approval of regular bail for both on Thursday.

Supreme Court's Intervention

The Supreme Court's decision to grant regular bail to Vikram and Shwetambari Bhatt represents a crucial turning point in the case. While the allegations of large-scale financial irregularities remain under investigation, the bail provides the couple with temporary relief as they prepare for the next phases of their legal defense.

The case continues to highlight the complex intersections between the entertainment industry, financial agreements, and legal accountability, with further developments expected as investigations proceed.
