Yash Unveils Intricate Details of His Role as Ravana in 'Ramayana'

Yash, the acclaimed actor, is sharing extensive insights into his portrayal of the lead antagonist Ravana in the highly anticipated epic saga 'Ramayana'. During his appearance at CinemaCon last week, he engaged with fans and reporters, delving into the complexities of bringing this iconic character to life on the big screen.

The Physical Demands of the Ravana Costume

In a candid video from the festival, Yash discussed the elaborate black and gold costume designed for Ravana, which includes a large gold crown, body armour, shoulder pads, and arm cuffs. He admitted that while wearing the costume made him feel powerful, it was also physically taxing. "I have never done anything like this before," Yash revealed. "Wearing these types of costumes and a crown, it was heavy, I must admit. We were very particular about the way it looked, and chasing the authentic look led it to finally being very heavy. I had to take it off in between the shoot. But it was amazing."

He emphasized that the costume played a crucial role in helping him embody the villainous character. "Once you get into costume, you start feeling the character. I always have that thing. When I'm in costume and get in front of the camera, that's when I really hit the note. With Ravana in that attire, it really felt like I was that person at that time. It gives you that power to go out and perform. It was a very unique experience."

Exploring Ravana's Mindset and Character Depth

Yash also detailed his preparation for the role, focusing on understanding Ravana's mindset. "I'm thinking what must've been going on in his head when he was doing these things. What is the reason behind it? How would he convince himself? So it was a very fascinating process for me, just to understand," he said.

He credited director Nitesh Tiwari for helping him explore deeper layers of the character. "We all knew about it, but in this story, this version, there is so much more to Ravana's character. So you can understand him in a different aspect in this story."

Fresh Interpretation of Ravana's Ten Heads

Addressing the film's take on Ravana's ten heads as depicted in traditional artworks, Yash hinted at an unconventional approach. "It's a very interesting interpretation that we have in the movie. I don't want to reveal it," he stated, adding, "When you watch it, that is going to be one of the most exciting parts of the film - how we are showing that he had ten heads is something very interesting."

Elaborating further, Yash explained, "I think it is also about his capacity as an individual. He was the best at many things. He was really good at whatever he did, so that's also a way to tell that he had ten heads. That's basically the representation of the ten-headed picture that you always see about Ravana."

Release Details and Promotional Plans

While Ravana was teased in the 'Rama' first look video, his full appearance remains under wraps. Rumors suggest that the makers will soon release his first look as part of the promotional schedule. Yash also disclosed that his character will not share any scenes with Ranbir Kapoor's Ram in the first part of the saga, which is slated for a Diwali 2026 release. He teased that while Diwali falls on November 6, the 'Ramayana' team is planning an end-October release for the film.
