Akhanda 2 Day 5: Steady Run, Total ₹68.57 Cr

The Telugu action spectacle Akhanda 2: Thaandavam, starring Nandamuri Balakrishna, has maintained a steady pace at the domestic box office as it concluded its first extended weekend. On its fifth day in theatres, which was Tuesday, December 20, the film added an estimated ₹2.22 crore to its kitty across all language versions.

Five-Day Cumulative Total Stands Strong

According to data from trade tracking website Sacnilk, the five-day India net collection for the Boyapati Sreenu-directed sequel has now reached an impressive ₹68.57 crore. The film's performance has been primarily fueled by its core Telugu-speaking audience, with other dubbed versions contributing moderately.

The movie kicked off its run with paid previews on Day 0 (Thursday, December 15), netting ₹8 crore. It saw a powerful surge on its first full day, Friday, December 16, collecting a robust ₹22.5 crore. However, the collections witnessed a dip on Day 2 (Saturday), earning ₹15.5 crore, marking a decline of about 31%. Early estimates for Day 3 (Sunday) stood at ₹12.43 crore, bringing the total to ₹58.43 crore before the Monday and Tuesday figures were added.

Regional Theatre Occupancy Insights for Day 5

The overall occupancy trends on Tuesday showed modest levels. Morning shows across regions registered an average occupancy of 9.33%, while afternoon shows saw a better turnout at 18.44%.

A closer look at the Tamil (2D) version of 'Thaandavam' reveals a mixed performance in key urban centres on Day 5:

Pondicherry emerged as the strongest market with an overall occupancy of 26.5%. The city reported consistent footfalls of 26% in morning shows and 27% in afternoon shows across 20 screenings.

Chennai and Bengaluru reported identical overall occupancies of 16.5%. Chennai maintained balanced numbers with 15% in mornings and 18% in afternoons across a wide 188 screenings. Bengaluru, with only three reported shows, saw a significant jump from 8% occupancy in morning shows to 25% in the afternoon.

Other centres in Tamil Nadu recorded more subdued figures:

  • Vellore: 15%
  • Dindigul: 14%
  • Salem: 11%
  • Madurai: 10%
  • Coimbatore and Trichy: 8.5% each

Looking Ahead for Akhanda 2

The film's ability to hold steady on a weekday after its opening weekend indicates a stable, if not spectacular, audience retention. The core performance continues to be driven by the Telugu states, with the dubbed versions, especially the Tamil 'Thaandavam', showing varied regional interest. The coming weekdays will be crucial in determining the film's long-term sustainability at the box office against new releases and audience word-of-mouth.
