The much-anticipated sequel Cocktail 2 and the family drama Maa Inti Bangaram have wrapped up their first weekend at the box office, posting impressive numbers. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Cocktail 2 collected approximately ₹18.5 crore net in India over its opening weekend, while Maa Inti Bangaram earned around ₹12.3 crore net in the same period.
Cocktail 2: Strong Start in Multiplexes
Cocktail 2, starring Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone, saw a solid opening on Friday with ₹5.2 crore, followed by ₹6.8 crore on Saturday and ₹6.5 crore on Sunday. The film performed exceptionally well in multiplexes, particularly in metro cities, where occupancy rates reached 65-70% over the weekend. Trade analysts attribute this to the film's strong pre-release buzz and positive word-of-mouth from early screenings.
“The sequel has managed to capture the audience's interest despite mixed reviews,” said film trade analyst Taran Adarsh. “The weekend numbers are encouraging, especially given the competition from other releases.”
Maa Inti Bangaram: Strong in Single Screens
On the other hand, Maa Inti Bangaram, starring Allu Sirish and Anu Emmanuel, took a more modest start with ₹3.1 crore on Friday, but gained momentum over the weekend with ₹4.5 crore on Saturday and ₹4.7 crore on Sunday. The film performed particularly well in single screens and smaller towns, where its family-centric storyline resonated with audiences.
“The film's collections in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have been robust, contributing nearly 60% of the total weekend earnings,” noted a distributor from the region. The film's emotional narrative and strong performances have helped it maintain steady footfalls.
Impact of Clash and Holiday Weekend
Both films released on the same day, June 22, benefiting from the extended weekend due to a public holiday on Monday. However, the clash did not significantly cannibalize each other's business, as they cater to different audience segments. Cocktail 2 appeals to urban youth and multiplex audiences, while Maa Inti Bangaram targets family audiences and rural viewers.
Overall, the combined weekend gross for the two films stands at over ₹30 crore, indicating a healthy start for both. The coming week will be crucial for both films as they face the challenge of weekdays and new releases next Friday.
