Filmmaker Mahesh Narayanan has finally responded to the chatter surrounding the scale and performance of 'Patriot.' Since its release, the film has been at the center of intense discussion, with audiences and trade analysts debating everything from its narrative choices to its financial prospects.
Mahesh Narayanan Dismisses Rs 180 Crore Speculation
Addressing the widely circulated figure of Rs 180 crore, Mahesh dismissed it outright, calling it inflated speculation. In his words, shared with Cinema Express, 'Such figures will keep coming from the outside,' making it clear that the numbers being discussed publicly do not reflect reality.
Director's Confidence in Box Office Recovery
Despite the skepticism, the director remains optimistic about the film's financial journey. He expressed strong belief that 'Patriot' will comfortably recover its investment and go beyond. When asked about the possibility of crossing Rs 200 crore, he responded with confidence: 'It will definitely happen. A digital platform recently acquired its rights for a record price. They saw the film and bought it. That is our first revenue (from the film). We believe that we will earn more revenue from theaters.'
The 'Patriot' OTT Deal Boosts Revenue
One of the key revelations from the interview was about the film's OTT rights. The project has already secured a major digital deal, giving it a solid financial cushion even before its theatrical run reaches full momentum. Mahesh acknowledged that 'Patriot' is not a conventional commercial entertainer. He revealed that producer Anto Joseph and the team were fully aware of the gamble involved in supporting a story that does not follow the usual formula.
The director urged viewers to give the film more time and approach it with an open mind. He subtly pointed out that expectations might be misaligned, stating, 'This is my personal take. People can differ from my view.' He also hinted that audiences expecting a typical mass-action spectacle might not find what they are looking for in 'Patriot.'
Mammootty and Mohanlal's Reunion After 'Twenty:20'
One of the biggest highlights of 'Patriot' was bringing legends Mammootty and Mohanlal back together on screen after their collaboration in 'Twenty:20.' However, despite the excitement, a section of fans voiced disappointment, particularly regarding how Mohanlal's character was utilized in the narrative. While the film boasts a powerful cast and ambitious storytelling, audience reactions have remained divided. Even so, Mahesh Narayanan stands firm, betting on the film's long-term performance across platforms.
