Surat: A 41-year-old Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) spokesperson has been arrested by the Laskana police for allegedly sexually exploiting a woman under the pretext of marriage. The accused, Kalu Vaghasia, had been absconding for the past month before being apprehended in Surat when he reportedly came to meet his family members.
Details of the Case
Laskana police inspector Meena Zala informed the Times of India, “We booked Vaghasia under Sections 69, 351(2), 352 and 115(2) of the BNS after a 35-year-old woman filed a complaint. The accused and the victim had met on social media. He allegedly lured her with promises of marriage after divorcing his wife. He took her to different places and established physical relations with her. When the woman later raised the issue of marriage, he allegedly threatened and assaulted her.”
The case was registered on April 10, after which Vaghasia went into hiding and moved across Gujarat. He traveled to Vapi, Vadodara, Salangpur, and other locations. To avoid detection, he refrained from using his own phone and instead borrowed phones from random individuals to contact family members and friends. Police are currently investigating who assisted him during his time in hiding.
Arrest and Investigation
Using human intelligence and technical surveillance, police learned that Vaghasia was in Vapi and planned to return to Surat to meet his family. Officers monitored his movements and apprehended him from the Diamondnagar area before he could reach his residence.
Police also revealed that Vaghasia had allegedly threatened the victim, warning her that she would meet the same fate as city builder Tushar Ghelani. In addition to his political activities, Vaghasia worked as a software developer and was a partner in a women’s garments firm.
