Filmmaker Advait Chandan has stepped away from Dharma Productions' highly anticipated sequel, Dostana 2. The director, who was attached to the project for approximately seven months, decided to leave due to creative differences with the producers.
Amicable Departure
According to a report by Variety India, the split was amicable and stemmed from a divergence in creative vision. Chandan's perspective for the film did not align with the direction the producers envisioned, but there is no animosity between the parties. The decision was mutual, and both sides remain on good terms.
A Troubled Journey for 'Dostana 2'
Chandan's exit is the latest development in a long and challenging production history for Dostana 2. The sequel to the 2008 blockbuster Dostana was first announced in 2019, with Kartik Aaryan, Janhvi Kapoor, and Lakshya in lead roles, and Collin D'Cunha set to make his directorial debut. However, the project was eventually shelved.
In recent years, Dharma Productions revived the film with a reimagined concept. The new version was reported to feature Vikrant Massey and Lakshya in leading roles, with former beauty pageant winner Sini Shetty being considered for the female lead.
Advait Chandan's Directorial Journey
Advait Chandan was brought on board to direct the revived project and invested nearly a year in its development. His appointment was well-received in the industry, given his ability to balance mass appeal with emotional depth. Chandan's most recent directorial effort was Loveyapa, and he previously helmed the Aamir Khan-starrer Laal Singh Chaddha.
