Allahabad HC Notices in Akanksha Dubey Death Case

The Allahabad High Court has issued notices to Samar Singh and his brother Sanjay Singh in connection with the death of Bhojpuri actress Akanksha Dubey. Dubey was found dead in a hotel room in Varanasi on March 26, 2023. The case has resurfaced nearly three years later after the actress's mother filed a petition rejecting the suicide theory and demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe. She alleges that her daughter was murdered, challenging the original police findings and casting doubt on the investigation.

High Court Directives

According to reports, the Allahabad High Court has directed both accused to file their responses to the petition. Additionally, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Sarnath has been ordered to submit a counter affidavit. The court warned that non-compliance would result in the officer being summoned to appear in person on May 22.

Initial Police Response

When Dubey's body was discovered at a hotel in Varanasi's Sarnath area in 2023, police were cautious. Preliminary findings suggested suicide, but officials awaited the post-mortem report. An official stated at the time, "The prima facie report suggests it might be a case of suicide. But we have to wait for the post-mortem report to be sure of the cause of death."

Social Media Uproar

The case took a disturbing turn after Dubey's death when a video of her in distress circulated widely. Reports emerged that she had gone live on Instagram shortly before her death. Clips showing her in tears, with her face buried in her hands, sparked public outrage and speculation about the circumstances of her final moments.

Arrest and Bail

In April 2023, police arrested Samar, reportedly Dubey's rumored boyfriend, along with his brother. The arrests followed a complaint from Dubey's family alleging harassment, criminal intimidation, and abetment to suicide. Samar spent several months in jail before being granted bail in November 2023. However, the investigation continued, and the recent High Court development indicates the case remains open.

No Suicide Note Found

The absence of a suicide note at the scene has kept doubts alive. Authorities confirmed no note was found. With the High Court's involvement and the family's push for a CBI probe, the case is back in the spotlight.
