The Bihar Women and Child Development Corporation has joined forces with the Delhi-based Chhaanv Foundation to offer comprehensive rehabilitation support to acid attack survivors in the state. This initiative aims to empower affected women and children by addressing their medical, educational, psychological, and economic needs.
Holistic Support for 160 Survivors
Under this partnership, approximately 160 survivors from across Bihar will receive integrated assistance. The program covers medical treatment, education, skill development, and sustainable livelihood opportunities. It is designed to tackle not only physical recovery but also the social, economic, and psychological hurdles that survivors encounter.
Government Commitment to Dignity
Bandana Preyashi, Managing Director of the corporation, emphasized that acid attack survivors often belong to marginalized communities and face lifelong struggles. She stated that the state government is dedicated to restoring their dignity and reintegrating them into mainstream society through a coordinated support system. The initiative ensures legal aid, quality healthcare, psychosocial counseling, and effective rehabilitation to help survivors become self-reliant.
Special Rehabilitation Program Underway
A special 20-day rehabilitation program is currently being conducted at the Youth Hostel on Fraser Road in Patna. Running from April 15 to May 5, the program involves expert teams from Chhaanv Foundation conducting detailed one-on-one assessments. Each survivor's mental, physical, economic, and social needs are evaluated through personalized counseling and in-depth interactions.
Long-Term Commitment
Both organizations have pledged to make this initiative a long-term effort, aiming to build a robust, inclusive, and sensitive support system for acid attack survivors in Bihar. The collaboration seeks to ensure sustained assistance and empowerment for these individuals.
