Kendrapada: In a tragic incident, a 23-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide by hanging herself in her in-laws' house on the first night of her marriage on Tuesday. The reasons behind the bride's drastic step are yet to be known.
Details of the Incident
The woman was identified as Santoshi Swain, daughter of Pravakar Swain of Duadia under Kujang police station. She married Kailash Mohapatra (28) of Baleipur village under Kujang police station limits on Saturday. On Tuesday night, Kailash found the door of the room locked from inside, prompting him to look through the window. He found her hanging from the ceiling fan. The family members immediately informed the police.
Police Investigation
IIC of Kujang police station Susant Kumar Acharya said, "The door was broken in the presence of police and she was found hanging from the ceiling fan. We shifted her to the community health centre in Kujang, where doctors declared her dead. Police seized the body and sent it to the district headquarters hospital, Jagatsinghpur, for autopsy. No suicide note was recovered from the spot. An investigation is underway to find out what prompted the bride to kill herself."
