BRS Leader Hails SC Verdict on Homemakers as National Builders

Hyderabad: BRS senior leader B Vinod Kumar hailed the Supreme Court’s verdict on homemakers, calling them 'national builders' and stating they must get Rs 30,000 a month. He said a woman is the backbone of every family and the Court categorically held that the contribution of a homemaker cannot be measured merely in rupees.

“If a homemaker stops working for even one day, the entire household feels the impact. Yet her labour was never adequately valued. This judgment is not merely about compensation. It is about restoring dignity to millions of women who dedicate their lives to their families without any salary or formal recognition,” he said in a statement.

The Supreme Court's landmark ruling has been widely welcomed by various sections of society. The court emphasized the invaluable role of homemakers in nation-building, acknowledging that their work, though unpaid, is crucial for the economy and social fabric. The judgment also directed the government to consider a monthly allowance of Rs 30,000 for homemakers, recognizing their economic contribution.

He urged the government to implement the court's recommendations promptly. The ruling is expected to benefit millions of women across the country who work tirelessly within their homes without any financial remuneration.

The case was brought before the Supreme Court by a petitioner seeking recognition and compensation for homemakers. The court's decision has set a precedent for valuing unpaid domestic work, which has long been overlooked in policy and legal frameworks.
