Chaithra Achar and Rukmini Vasanth on Their Special Friendship Beyond Films
Chaithra Achar and Rukmini Vasanth on Their Special Friendship

On the sets of Sapta Sagaralu Dhaati – Side B, actors Chaithra J Achar and Rukmini Vasanth discovered more than just professional camaraderie — they found a friendship that continues to thrive beyond the screen. From quiet conversations in caravans to post-promotion giggles in hotel corridors, their bond has become a safe space in an otherwise demanding industry. This Friendship Day, they sat down with Hyderabad Times to talk about how their connection began, what makes it special, and why having someone who truly understands your journey makes all the difference.

How It All Began

Rukmini recalled her first encounter with Chaithra at Rakshit Shetty’s birthday party during the shoot of Sapta Sagaralu Dhaati. It was just a brief ‘Hi’ and ‘Bye’ moment. Chaithra, who had seen Rukmini’s films before, said it was only during Side B that they really started talking. They would drop by each other’s caravans between shoots. Chaithra remembered the first time she visited Rukmini’s caravan — Rukmini was reading or writing, very focused. They did not even have scenes together, but that is where the friendship began.

Opening Up to Each Other

Rukmini explained that as an actor starting out, there is a unique vulnerability. You are dependent on others for opportunities, figuring things out, and as women, there are layers to that experience. With Chaithra, she found someone she could share that with, someone who understood without judgment. Chaithra added that the friendship was not forced; it grew from small conversations and shared experiences. Having Rukmini as someone she could confide in made all the difference.

Personalities and Balance

Rukmini described herself as more of an introvert who enjoys quiet space, while Chaithra is like a loud ray of sunshine who lights up any room. That contrast makes their bond stronger. Rukmini values how Chaithra makes people open up. Chaithra noted that although she appears outgoing, she rarely lets people in. With Rukmini, she does not feel the need to put on a front. Their similarities and differences meet in the middle, making it special.

No Competition

Both actors are rising in the industry, but there is no ego or comparison between them. Chaithra said that if she signs a film, sometimes Rukmini knows before her parents do. They trust each other and have genuine appreciation for what the other is doing. Rukmini agreed that the support they have for one another is rare in the industry, something usually expected only from family. Chaithra understands the pressures of Rukmini’s work without needing explanation.

Watching Films Together

They bonded over watching random films, even the strangest ones. Chaithra has a hilarious running commentary, spotting moments on screen that no one else notices. Once she points them out, you cannot unsee them. Those movie nights are some of Rukmini’s favorite memories with her.

The Comfort of Friendship

Chaithra said she can just be herself with Rukmini. They can spend an entire day in silence or laughing endlessly, and it still feels like quality time. Rukmini noted that the industry often makes you put up walls, but with Chaithra, she can switch off and be herself. That kind of safe space is priceless. Whenever either is in Hyderabad, they check if the other is around. During one promotion tour, they would meet for breakfast at the hotel, laughing about how tired they were after long days, and end up running down the corridor barefoot after kicking off high heels. They have hardly explored Hyderabad despite all the times they have been there for work.
