Chyler Leigh and Eric Dane played on-screen love interests on Grey's Anatomy and shared a close friendship off-screen. Following the news of Eric Dane's passing, cast members of the hit medical drama were deeply affected. In a recent interview, Leigh revealed her biggest regret regarding their last potential meeting.
Chyler Leigh Opens Up About Her Regret
Speaking with TV Insider, the actress disclosed that she had an opportunity to meet Dane during a shoot but was unable to due to scheduling conflicts. The shoot in question was the dream sequence featuring Meredith Grey while she fought for her life after contracting COVID-19.
“We were filming all during Covid — actual Covid — and I was filming Supergirl in Vancouver. I couldn't go down to be there because I would have had to quarantine for two weeks coming back into Vancouver.” She explained that the travel and quarantine time would have been too extensive, forcing her to film her part of the sequence in front of a green screen instead of on the actual set.
Leigh concluded that not traveling to meet everyone is one of her biggest regrets. “If there's anything that I regret, it would be not having been able to do that.”
During the interview, she also recalled fond memories of working with Dane, stating, “I could pick a million memories. He was a wonderful human being.”
Meredith Grey’s Dream Sequence
In the ending sequence, Dane and Leigh’s characters, Mark and Lexie, reunite after nearly a decade since their characters died on the show. Lexie’s death occurred at the end of season 8 during a plane crash involving several doctors from Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, right after Mark admitted he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. Season 9’s premiere depicted Mark’s death in the same location.
Eric Dane, who last appeared in Euphoria Season 3, passed away on February 13, 2025, after being diagnosed with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis).
