Hollywood actress Devon Aoki, famed for her role in '2 Fast 2 Furious', finds herself in the headlines again due to a vehicular incident involving her husband. James Bailey, Aoki's spouse, has been formally charged with a hit-and-run after a shocking accident that left a scooter rider with serious injuries.
The Shocking Coral Gables Incident
The event unfolded on Monday in Coral Gables, Florida. Bailey, 40, was driving his white Audi SQ7 SUV when he allegedly struck a man on a stand-up scooter in a crosswalk. According to a report from Local 10, the unidentified victim suffered significant harm, including two foot fractures and a large contusion on his left calf.
A disturbing video of the encounter shows the victim's foot trapped under the front tyre of the Audi. The rider is seen slapping the vehicle's hood in agony, pleading for Bailey to move the car. The victim's girlfriend was also present, frantically asking the driver to reverse and free the man's foot.
Flight to a Multi-Million Dollar Mansion
Instead of helping, the Audi reversed, knocking the injured man to the ground. The vehicle then backed up, accelerated forward, ran over the scooter, and sped away from the scene. Bailey failed to provide aid, share his information, or report the crash to the police.
Authorities later traced the Audi via license plate readers and police cameras to its registered address: a luxurious $9.1 million mansion in Florida shared by Bailey and Devon Aoki. When officers arrived, Aoki informed them she did not know where the vehicle was.
The Arrest and Court Appearance
As police were preparing to leave, Bailey arrived at the mansion in the same Audi. When a sergeant asked him to approach, the investor reportedly ran away, locked himself inside the home for several minutes, and watched the officers through the windows before finally surrendering. His car showed minor damage consistent with the collision.
James Bailey was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on charges of hit-and-run causing serious bodily injury and resisting an officer without violence. He appeared in Miami-Dade bond court on Tuesday and was released after posting a $7,500 bond. Local 10 footage captured him grinning as he left the facility.
Devon Aoki, 43, retired from acting after her last screen appearance in a 2016 Grammy-nominated documentary about her brother, DJ Steve Aoki. This incident brings unwanted attention back to the former model and actress, best known for her work in '2 Fast 2 Furious' and 'Sin City'.
