A Bengaluru-based devotee has donated seven gold medallions valued at Rs 95 lakh to the Tirumala Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Andhra Pradesh. The donation was made during a special ceremony held at the temple premises on Tuesday.
Details of the Donation
The gold medallions, each weighing 50 grams, are crafted with intricate designs depicting religious symbols and motifs associated with Lord Venkateswara. The total weight of the medallions is 350 grams of 24-carat gold. The devotee, who wished to remain anonymous, presented the offerings to the temple authorities as a token of devotion.
Ceremony and Acceptance
The temple priests conducted a special pooja before accepting the donation. The medallions were placed at the feet of the deity during the ritual. Temple officials expressed gratitude for the generous contribution, noting that such donations help in the maintenance and development of the temple infrastructure.
This is not the first instance of significant donations to the Tirumala temple. The shrine, one of the richest in India, regularly receives offerings of gold, silver, and cash from devotees. The donated gold is often used for temple renovations, making ornaments for the deity, or deposited in banks for interest earnings.
Significance of the Temple
The Tirumala Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple, located on the Tirumala Hill in Tirupati, is one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites in Hinduism. It attracts millions of devotees annually from across the globe. The temple's administration, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), manages the offerings and ensures they are utilized for religious and charitable purposes.
The donation of gold medallions is seen as an act of piety and is believed to bring blessings to the donor. The TTD has a system of acknowledging such contributions with certificates and special mentions in their records.
