Kendrapada: Police in Jagatsinghpur district arrested a 42-year-old man on Sunday for allegedly killing his father and stepmother over a property dispute. The accused, identified as Dilip Parida of Teretanga village under Balikuda police station, worked as a security guard at a rice mill in Cuttack. He returned to his village on the occasion of Raja and became involved in an argument with his father, Satyananda Parida (72), and stepmother, Charulata Parida (50), over property matters. The dispute escalated, and Dilip attacked them with an axe on Sunday afternoon.

Victims Declared Dead at Community Health Centre

Local residents rushed the injured couple to the community health centre at Balikuda, where doctors declared them dead upon arrival. Upon receiving information, police reached the village and apprehended the accused. “We also seized a blood-stained axe from the spot. The accused was booked under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita,” said an official.

Bodies Sent for Autopsy

The police seized the bodies and sent them to the district government hospital at Jagatsinghpur for post-mortem examination. “We are investigating the case,” said Jagatsinghpur Superintendent of Police Ankit Kumar Verma.

Preliminary Investigation Reveals Motive

Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had been pressuring his parents to sell land to help him settle his financial obligations. On Sunday, he repeated his demand, but his parents reportedly abused him. In a sudden fit of rage, he attacked both with the axe. “The accused also had a long-standing strained relationship with his stepmother,” added the officer.

The incident has shocked the local community, and further investigations are underway to uncover all details surrounding the case.
