Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Dikho has alleged that a Kuki group operating under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) pact was responsible for the killing of six Nagas in the state. The claim comes amid ongoing protests and an indefinite highway blockade called by Naga organisations to condemn the killings.
Deputy CM's Allegation
Speaking to reporters, Dikho stated that intelligence reports indicated the involvement of a Kuki militant group that had signed the SoO agreement with the government. He emphasised that the state government would take strict action against any group violating the pact.
Background of the Incident
The killings occurred earlier this week, triggering outrage among Naga communities. The victims were reportedly from a Naga village in Manipur. Following the incident, Naga civil society groups imposed an indefinite blockade on the Imphal-Dimapur highway, demanding justice and the arrest of the perpetrators.
SoO Pact and Its Implications
The SoO pact, signed between the government and several Kuki militant groups, has been in place for years to maintain peace. However, recent violence has raised questions about its effectiveness. Dikho warned that any group found violating the agreement would face consequences.
Reactions and Next Steps
Naga organisations have rejected the Deputy CM's claim, calling for an independent investigation. Meanwhile, security forces have been deployed to prevent further escalation. The state government has assured a thorough probe into the incident.
