Aditya Dhar's spy thriller 'Dhurandhar' has garnered significant attention for its realistic portrayal of India's political and social landscape. The film follows an Indian spy operating in Karachi and incorporates real names and references to actual figures from politics, government, and terrorism. However, keen-eyed viewers have discovered that a crucial storyline was removed, one tied to one of India's most painful historical events: the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
Dhurandhar 2 Uncut Version: What Viewers Discovered
The recently released uncut version of 'Dhurandhar', titled 'Raw and Undekha', has prompted audiences on Netflix and JioHotstar to revisit the film. Many are meticulously analyzing scenes, uncovering Easter eggs and subtle alterations absent from the original theatrical release. A particularly discussed discovery occurs at the interval, where two childhood friends find themselves on opposite sides of a tense confrontation. When Hamza, also known as Jaskirat (played by Ranveer Singh), corners his old friend Pinda (Udaybir Sandhu) over his involvement in drug peddling and smuggling into India, the exchange takes a deeply emotional turn. As Jaskirat hints at Pinda's betrayal of his country, Pinda retorts with words carrying years of pain: 'Keda desh, wo Desh jinne hume apna maneya hi nahi (The country that never accepted us as one of its own).'
Dhurandhar 2's Original 1984 Dialogue That Was Dubbed Over
Viewers have noticed that Pinda's line in the film is not the original; it has been dubbed over with a different dialogue. Reddit users who investigated further discovered the original line. In Punjabi, Pinda's original line was: 'Keda desh? Wo desh jinne chaurasi vich apne bhaiyo nu mareya tha.' This translates to: 'The same country that killed our brothers in '84.' This line directly references the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, which resulted in thousands of deaths and are considered one of India's darkest moments, also marking the peak of the Khalistani insurgency in Punjab.
Dhurandhar 2 Also Renamed a Real-Life Khalistani Militant's Character
The dialogue was not the only alteration. 'Dhurandhar' also quietly renamed a character between its two parts. In the first 'Dhurandhar', a character appeared in the credits as 'Happy PhD'. In part 2, the same character was renamed 'Sunny DVD'. The reason becomes clear when examining who Happy PhD was: Harmeet Singh, known by that alias, was a real Khalistani militant and chief of the Khalistan Liberation Force. Declared a terrorist by India, he was killed in 2020 under mysterious circumstances that remain unexplained.
Dhurandhar 2 Changes: What Viewers on Reddit Are Saying
Once screengrabs and details of these changes circulated on Reddit on Tuesday, viewers quickly shared their reactions. Some expressed curiosity about the original version: 'Man I really wanna know what was the original movie like without any scenes cut, removed, or altered,' wrote one user. Others viewed the changes as deliberate creative and safety decisions: 'Aditya Dhar played it safe, keeping the focus on the Pakistani terror angle,' argued another. However, not everyone agreed on their necessity: 'But did these changes really help? Sunny DVD part was anyway not the main thing in that chapter. As for Pinda, it was evident he is Khalistani. So I don't think dubbing those dialogues did any help. The Khalistani angle was pretty evident. Someone in Canada slashed the screen on day 1, so you can imagine the message has been conveyed,' pointed out another user.
