Former NFL Scout Alleges Ten Female Journalists Involved with Coaches

A former NFL scout has stirred controversy by alleging that multiple female journalists are involved in relationships with coaches and other NFL personnel, reigniting discussions around the Dianna Russini-Mike Vrabel scandal. The scout, known on X as "AngryScoutVet," shared a post referencing Crissy Froyd's article for Daily Mail, stating: "I would set the over/under at 10 current female journalists sleeping with coaches, executives, agents, or players."

Crissy Froyd's Claims and Firing

Crissy Froyd, a former USA TODAY journalist, was fired after commenting on Dianna Russini. Following the Mike Vrabel scandal, Froyd wrote an article for Daily Mail detailing alleged misconduct. She hoped that during Vrabel's first press conference after the scandal emerged, journalists would ask him: "Were you having an affair with a journalist covering the NFL and your organization?" Froyd claimed she lost her job partly for attempting to expose what she called an open secret: that some female sports reporters trade sexual relationships for stories. She emphasized that she did not care about private consensual relationships but was concerned about corruption in the industry.

Allegations of Trading Relationships for Access

The Vrabel-Russini scandal has highlighted a culture where female journalists may feel pressured to trade sexual relationships with powerful male NFL employees for access and career advancement. This has cast suspicion over journalists and teams that operate ethically. Froyd initially tweeted about Russini's resignation from The Athletic, which reportedly led to her firing from USA TODAY. Since then, several journalists have reached out to Froyd in support, appreciating that someone finally voiced what they felt unable to say. Froyd reiterated that "some female sports reporters and powerful male team employees trade sex for stories, and that is a corruption that must be exposed."

Prior Knowledge of Alleged Affair

Froyd claimed that around 2020, a well-known national sports reporter told her that Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini were allegedly involved in a secret relationship. She also stated that "at least half a dozen female reporters" admitted to having sexual relationships with NFL staff, including a prominent head coach, while covering the team. Over her career, Froyd said she heard dozens of such stories involving some of the most prominent female sports reporters and NFL coaches. She described how these relationships often begin with an invitation to a baseball game, but then the coach offers to meet beforehand at his hotel room. Sometimes, the coach would comment on what a journalist wore previously and request similar attire for future meetings.
