A 15-year-old girl sustained severe injuries after falling from the first-floor balcony of a building in Khoda, Ghaziabad, while attempting to escape an alleged sexual assault by a minor neighbour. Police have detained the accused, a 16-year-old boy.
Incident Details
The girl, a Class IX student, lives with her family on the first floor of a three-storey building. The accused resides on the second floor with his parents. Both attend the same school in Delhi, with the boy being a year senior.
According to police, the incident occurred around 1:30 am on Friday when the girl was asleep. The accused allegedly entered her flat and tried to force himself on her. Startled, she ran toward the balcony. The boy caught her and covered her mouth to prevent her from screaming. In her desperate attempt to break free, she fell from the balcony to the ground.
Discovery and Response
The sound of the fall woke the girl’s elder sister, who lives on the ground floor with her marital family. She rushed out and found her sister injured. Her screams alerted neighbours, who gathered at the spot. The girl narrated the ordeal to her sister, who informed the police. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Indirapuram Abhishek Shrivastava said, “A police team reached the spot after receiving the information and detained the minor. A case has been registered based on the complaint filed by the girl’s family, and further legal action is underway.”
Accused’s Behavior
The accused did not attempt to flee. He returned to his flat and went to bed. The girl’s family knocked on his door, and his parents were initially unaware until the sister explained the situation. Neighbours said the accused had recently gone through a breakup and was visibly distressed. The girl had allegedly been trying to extend friendship toward him, which he might have misinterpreted.
