In a tragic incident that has shocked the advertising and corporate communities, a 54-year-old advertising professional from Shivamogga died by suicide in the early hours of Wednesday. The victim, identified as Anand Subbarao, jumped from the 13th floor of a hotel located in Gurgaon's Sector 63, according to police reports.

Anand Subbarao, who was residing alone on Sohna Road in Sector 49, Gurgaon, had checked into the hotel on Tuesday. Police were alerted by hotel staff after the incident occurred around 4 a.m. on Wednesday. Upon arrival, authorities found a suicide note at the spot, which cited personal reasons for the extreme step.
A police officer stated, "He was residing alone in Gurgaon. In his suicide note, he cited personal reasons and did not accuse anyone, attributing the death to mental distress." The note explicitly mentioned mental distress as a contributing factor, with no allegations made against any individuals.
Police personnel, along with forensic teams and investigation units, conducted a thorough examination of the scene. CCTV footage from the hotel was reviewed, and no suspicious circumstances were detected. It was confirmed that he jumped voluntarily and was not pushed, according to official statements.
Background and Career of Anand Subbarao
Anand Subbarao was a partner at And And Brand Partners, a private advertising and brand company. Born as the son of a railway employee at the Shivamogga railway station, he grew up in a railway colony there. After completing his Pre-University education in Shivamogga, he pursued a Bachelor of Business Management (BBM) in Mysuru and an MBA in Manipal.
Known for his creative English skills, Anand worked with top advertising agencies in Bengaluru and Delhi before becoming a partner at And And Brand Partners and settling in Gurgaon. His professional journey was marked by significant contributions to the advertising industry.
Literary and Cultural Legacy
Beyond his advertising career, Anand was also an accomplished author. In 2017, he published a book titled 'Half Pants Full Pants' (HPFP), which vividly captured his childhood experiences in the railway colony. The book detailed the adventures and misadventures of his character Dabba (his nickname) and his friends—Banana, Belluli, Guppy, Giddi, Koji, Monty, Avi, Compti, Pandu, and Shetty.
In 2022, this "childhood biography" was adapted into a web series with the same name, streamed on an OTT platform. The series was well-received, showcasing Anand's creative storytelling abilities and leaving a lasting cultural impact.
