But ‘Lagaan’ still managed to do very well and is considered one of the greatest Indian films ever made. The film also made India proud when it got nominated for the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. Only two other Indian films had received this nomination before: ‘Mother India’ and ‘Salaam Bombay!’. Even today, as of 2025, ‘Lagaan’ remains the last Indian film to have been nominated for this award.
