James Handy Stabbed to Death at 81; Neighbors Recall Kindness

James Handy, the veteran actor renowned for his appearances in 'Top Gun: Maverick' and 'Jumanji,' passed away at the age of 81 after being brutally stabbed on his front lawn, reportedly by his girlfriend's son. As chills ran down the spine of Hollywood, the actor's neighbors opened up about his kind behavior and humble disposition. Here is a closer look at James Handy's neighbors reminiscing about the actor after his violent demise.

The Tarzana Neighborhood Remembers

James Handy used to live with his girlfriend, Wendy Gledhill, in the neighborhood of Tarzana, California. Moreover, Wendy's 44-year-old son, Michael, used to share the residence with them. Describing the couple, a neighbor said, 'the nice neighbors around the corner that had the cat that likes to pay a visit,' according to People magazine. The 57-year-old neighbor pointed out that he was aware of the duo living together for three years but was unaware of her son's living situation. 'They're just always really friendly, just like most of the neighbors around here,' he said, adding that Handy was a friendly person who used to talk about cats and baseball. 'I really regret the fact that I didn't take advantage and just see him one last time. Life's too short,' the neighbor expressed, mentioning he was lucky that he talked to him at least once.

Details of the Tragic Incident

James Handy was lethally stabbed on June 3, 2026, by Michael Gledhill, who confessed to doing the deed during a 911 phone call. 'I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin,' LAPD reported about the call to dispatch. On June 5, Michael was charged with one count of murder and is currently facing 26 years to life in prison. The court has ordered that he can be transferred to the mental health court and receive psychological evaluations.
