Kajol Breaks No-Kissing Policy for The Trial

Bollywood star Kajol has opened up about her decision to break her long-standing no-kissing policy for her OTT debut in the courtroom drama 'The Trial: Pyaar, Kaanoon, Dhokha'. In a recent podcast interview, the actress described it as a professional, character-driven choice, one she remained deeply uncertain about until the very moment she stood on set.

Kajol's Candid Revelation

Kajol, who has been a leading name in Hindi cinema for over three decades with iconic films like 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge' and 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai', made her OTT debut in 2023 with 'The Trial'. The series required her to share a kiss with co-star Jisshu Sengupta, crossing a personal boundary she had maintained throughout her career.

Speaking on Lilly Singh's podcast, Kajol explained that the scene was inseparable from her character's journey. She stated, "It wasn't simply a kiss; it was about what she thought and what she wanted to happen and what didn't happen for her." The actress elaborated, "What she believed, what she had faith in. What she couldn't have faith in. It was something that was an integral part of the entire screenplay, so I couldn't have cut that out without cutting an integral part of the entire character."

Kajol Admits Discomfort

During the same conversation, Kajol admitted the decision was not easy. She told Lilly Singh, "I think I was uncomfortable with it. I was very, very uncomfortable with the idea till I was standing on set... I really think it was simply that; it was simply a professional call where I felt that I can make this call today." Her honesty highlights the internal conflict she faced before ultimately prioritizing the character's authenticity.

About 'The Trial' and What's Next

In 'The Trial', Kajol plays Noyonika Sengupta, a housewife who returns to law after her husband's scandal. The courtroom drama, directed by Suparn Verma, is an Indian adaptation of the acclaimed series 'The Good Wife'. Season 2 of the show is now streaming on JioHotstar, continuing the story of Noyonika's legal and personal battles.

Kajol's willingness to step out of her comfort zone for the role has been praised by fans and critics alike. As she continues to explore new platforms and characters, her decision underscores the evolving nature of storytelling in the digital age, where actors are increasingly embracing complex roles that challenge personal boundaries.
