Tragic End for Business Scion's Daughter-in-Law
In a shocking incident that has sent ripples through corporate and social circles, Deepti Chaurasia, the daughter-in-law of Kamla Pasand owner Kamal Kishore Chaurasia, was found dead on Tuesday evening. The 40-year-old's body was discovered hanging at her residence, with initial reports pointing towards suicide.
Family Alleges Harassment and Demands Justice
The tragedy took a grim turn when Deepti's brother, Rishabh, came forward with serious allegations against her husband, Harpreet Chaurasia, and her mother-in-law. He claimed that Deepti was subjected to persistent physical assault and mental torture by them. Rishabh stated to reporters, "Her mother-in-law and husband used to beat her. Her husband, Harpreet, had affairs."
He further revealed that the family had intervened in the past. "When we got to know about it, we took our daughter home... After that, her mother-in-law took her back. My sister used to call me and say that she was tortured and that her husband had affairs," he added, expressing his anguish and demand for a thorough investigation.
Diary Reveals Marital Strife and Police Investigation
Adding a crucial dimension to the case, police officials confirmed the recovery of a diary from the scene. In her writings, Deepti documented a serious dispute with her husband, Harpreet, whom she had married in 2010. The couple is survived by their 14-year-old son.
Media reports suggest that the marital discord was severe, with Harpreet allegedly entering into a second marriage with a South Indian actress. Deepti's body was moved to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi on Tuesday night, and a postmortem examination, to be conducted by a panel of doctors, is currently pending.
Deepti's family is now preparing to file a formal complaint, seeking to invoke Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for abetment to suicide. Rishabh's statements cast a shadow of doubt over the circumstances, as he questioned, "I don't know whether my sister was killed or died by suicide. I just want justice."
The case has brought the spotlight back on the prominent business family behind the pan-India Kamla Pasand pan masala and gutka brand, founded by Kamala Kant Chaurasia and Kamal Kishore Chaurasia, a multi-billion rupee enterprise.
