Man Arrested for Leaking Avatar: The Last Airbender Film

A 26-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly leaking portions of the unreleased animated film 'The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender'. According to a police statement issued on April 24, authorities received a report on April 16 regarding clips from an unreleased film circulating on social media platforms. The suspect was identified and apprehended within a day of the complaint, as reported by the Straits Times.

Suspect Gained Access to Media Server

Investigators leading the case allege that the man gained unauthorized remote access to a media server, from which he downloaded the unreleased film and later uploaded parts of it on social media. Law enforcement officials confirmed that several electronic devices were seized during the arrest, and a copy of the unreleased film was recovered from one of the devices.

Suspect Could Face Jail Term

The suspect is currently under investigation. If convicted, he could face a maximum penalty of up to seven years in prison, a fine of up to USD 50,000, or both. Authorities have not disclosed further details, and investigations are ongoing.

About the Film Leak

As reported earlier this month, portions of the movie leaked online months ahead of its premiere on Paramount+. An anonymous X account claimed that a Nickelodeon employee emailed the entire film to them. According to reports, the pirated version was a high-quality file, not the usual low-grade camera-recorded versions.

Paramount conducted an investigation into the incident. As part of the ongoing probe, the company eliminated the possibility that the leak was caused by a vulnerability in its systems, as stated in a report by The Hollywood Reporter. Clips of the movie shared on social media platforms were taken down through the company's copyright takedown process. The film is slated to release on October 9, 2026.
