Actor and comedian Marlon Wayans has revealed that Melissa Joan Hart, not Anna Faris, was initially considered for the iconic role of Cindy in the horror comedy film series Scary Movie. During promotions for the latest installment, Scary Movie 6, Faris asked Wayans and his brother Shawn Wayans if there was ever a celebrity who desperately wanted to be in a Scary Movie but had to be turned down.
Wayans Recalls Casting Process
Wayans recalled that his elder brother Keenan Ivory Wayans, who directed the first Scary Movie film released in 2000, was impressed by Faris's auditions and pushed for her to get the role. "Keenan was like, 'I saw this young lady Anna Faris, and it really feels like that's our Cindy,'" Wayans said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. He then joked, "So you took Melissa Joan Hart's job! Good job, Anna. Way to go. Taking food out of another white lady's mouth... White on white crime."
Scary Movie Franchise Success
After the release of Scary Movie, the franchise spawned sequels in 2001, 2003, 2006, and 2013. The latest film, released on Friday, has already earned over USD 51 million at the global box office. The films follow a core group of clueless but well-meaning friends as they navigate absurd, supernatural, and slasher threats. The series also features Wayans, Regina Hall, and Shawn Wayans, among others.
