Mel Gibson & Rosalind Ross End 9-Year Relationship, Focus on Co-Parenting Son
Mel Gibson and Rosalind Ross split after nine years

Hollywood actor Mel Gibson and his partner, screenwriter Rosalind Ross, have officially ended their romantic relationship of nine years. The couple confirmed the news with an exclusive joint statement to People magazine, marking the conclusion of a long-term partnership.

A Joint Statement and a Focus on Family

In their statement, Gibson and Ross addressed the split with a tone of mutual respect and a primary focus on their child. “While it is sad that we are ending this chapter in our lives, we are gifted with a wonderful son and will continue to be the best parents that we can be,” the couple said. This confirms their commitment to co-parenting their 8-year-old son, Lars, despite the end of their romantic involvement.

The separation, as per reports, happened quietly approximately a year ago. The 69-year-old actor and the 35-year-old moviemaker have managed to keep their personal lives private during this period before making the announcement public.

The Journey Together: From Meeting to Family

Gibson and Ross first connected through mutual friends back in 2014 and soon began dating. Their relationship welcomed a significant joy in 2017 with the birth of their son, Lars. The timing was notably poignant, as Lars arrived just days before Gibson received an Academy Award nomination for Best Director for his critically acclaimed film, Hacksaw Ridge.

Reflecting on that special time, Gibson had expressed immense happiness, stating, “What could be more exciting than listening to the nominations being announced while holding my newborn son.”

Lars is Gibson's ninth child. The actor has eight older children from previous relationships. He shares a daughter, Hannah, and six adult sons—Christian, Edward, William, Louis, Milo, and Thomas—with his ex-wife, Robyn Moore. He also has a 16-year-old daughter, Lucia, with songwriter and pianist Oksana Grigorieva, from whom he separated in 2010.

Family Moments and Recent Challenges

Despite the personal changes, Gibson has been seen with his younger children at public events. In September 2024, his two youngest, Lucia and Lars, joined him on the red carpet at the Los Angeles premiere of his film Monster Summer, presenting a picture of family unity.

The family also faced a severe challenge in January 2025 when their Malibu home was destroyed in the devastating Los Angeles wildfires. Gibson was out of town for work during the incident, but his family and pets were safely evacuated.

Speaking about the traumatic event during an appearance on NewsNation’s Elizabeth Vargas Reports on January 9, Gibson emphasized what mattered most. He said, “The good news is that those in my family and those I love are all well, and we’re all happy and healthy and out of harm’s way. That’s all I can care about, really.”

As Gibson and Ross navigate this new phase, their shared focus remains firmly on raising their son Lars, turning a page on their romantic history while continuing their journey as dedicated parents.
