Nagpur Marks World Book Day with Theatre and Literature Events

Nagpur: Theatre, literature, and quiet conversations came together across the city on Thursday as Nagpur marked World Book Day with a series of events celebrating storytelling in its many forms, also marking the death and birth anniversary of legendary English playwright and poet William Shakespeare.

Play 'Beyond the Darkness' Staged at Rashtrabhasha Bhavan

At Rashtrabhasha Bhavan, an original English play, ‘Beyond the Darkness', written and directed by Parag Ghonge, was staged jointly by Vidarbha Rashtrabhasha Prachar Samiti, ETEShree Arts Academy, and Vijay Prakashan. The production revolved around a creatively blocked theatre director and a disillusioned actress who rediscovered purpose through the stage, reflecting on artistic struggle and revival. Ghonge, along with Deeplaxmi Bhat, led the performance with layered portrayals that anchored the narrative. The evening also saw the release of two of Ghonge's books — Andhar Ujalnyasathee and Priya Sakhee.

Literary Gathering at Vidarbha Sahitya Sangh

Another such event was also organized as literary enthusiasts gathered at Vidarbha Sahitya Sangh's Granth Sahavas for ‘Guj-Goshti Chaitra Vaishakh Milanachya', organized under the guidance of newly appointed library director Swati Moharir. Drawing on seasonal metaphors, Moharir described Chaitra as a time of dreams and Vaishakh as a period of effort and realization, framing the essence of creative pursuit. The programme was presided over by VSS president Girish Gandhi, while members of Jagrit Lekhika Sakhi Samuh feted both Gandhi and Moharir on their recent appointments.
