Navi Mumbai Man Arrested for Strangling Elderly Woman

Turbhe police have arrested a 38-year-old man for the murder of a 66-year-old woman, whose body was discovered in a gunny bag about 300 metres from her residence. The accused, identified as Mobin Noor Mohammad Qureshi, worked as housekeeping staff with an agency and lived in the same neighbourhood as the victim, Azrunnisa Abdul Waheed Khan.

Debt Motive Behind the Crime

According to Senior Inspector Abasaheb Patil, Qureshi was under severe financial strain, with debts amounting to approximately Rs 7 lakh. Seeing the victim wearing gold ornaments, he decided to rob her to alleviate his financial troubles.

Sequence of Events

On May 18, around 5:30 pm, as the victim was returning home after buying groceries, Qureshi met her on the way. Under the pretext of offering her a cup of tea, he took her to his house. Once inside, he attempted to rob her of her gold ornaments. When she shouted for help, Qureshi strangled her with her dupatta. He then stuffed her body into a gunny sack and hid it under his bed.
