76 Accounts Identified, Three FIRs Registered
Superintendent of Police (SP) Logesh Kumar said that during the drive, police identified 76 social media accounts with a combined following of 2,35,018. Of these, 56 accounts were removed. Three first information reports (FIRs) were also registered against individuals accused of displaying weapons and creating fear in society through their posts.
The SP stated that the action was taken following directives from the Haryana government to launch a special crackdown against the display of weapons, promotion of gangster culture, and glorification of criminals on social media platforms.
Focus on Deterring Youth from Gangster Culture
Police found that many of the removed accounts shared photographs and videos featuring pistols, country-made firearms, and other weapons. The content appeared to be aimed at attracting youngsters towards gangster culture and projecting a criminal image. Investigations are ongoing to identify the individuals appearing in these posts.
SP Logesh Kumar warned that the misuse of social media to display weapons, promote gangster culture, or spread fear in society would not be tolerated. He said such activities invite strict legal action due to violation of the law.
Appeal for Responsible Social Media Use
The SP also appealed to the public, especially youngsters, to use social media responsibly. He urged them to promptly report any objectionable or unlawful online activity to the police. The crackdown underscores the police's commitment to curbing the glorification of crime and ensuring a safe online environment.
