In a remarkable initiative that extends learning beyond traditional classrooms, students of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in Shimla have produced a documentary focusing on the grave issue of drug addiction. The project, undertaken as part of their academic curriculum, aims to shed light on the growing menace of substance abuse among the youth in Himachal Pradesh.
Documentary Highlights Real Stories
The documentary features interviews with recovering addicts, their families, and healthcare professionals. It delves into the root causes of addiction, including peer pressure, stress, and lack of awareness. Through personal narratives, the film underscores the devastating consequences of drug abuse on individuals and society.
Student-Led Initiative
The students took charge of every aspect of production, from research and scripting to filming and editing. They collaborated with local NGOs and de-addiction centers to gather authentic content. Faculty members guided them, but the creative vision remained with the students.
One of the student directors stated, "We wanted to create something that could spark conversations and inspire action. Drug addiction is a sensitive topic, but we believe in the power of visual storytelling to bring about change."
Impact and Reception
The documentary has been screened at the institute and received positive feedback from peers and professors. Plans are underway to showcase it at local community centers and online platforms to reach a wider audience. The initiative has also encouraged other students to take up socially relevant projects.
NIFT Shimla’s director praised the effort, saying, "This project exemplifies how education can transcend textbooks and contribute to societal well-being. Our students have shown immense maturity and empathy."
The documentary serves as a powerful tool for awareness and prevention, highlighting the role of educational institutions in addressing critical social issues.
