Prashanth Neel's 'Ahvana' Was Written for Puneeth Rajkumar, Then Came KGF
Prashanth Neel's 'Ahvana' Was for Puneeth Rajkumar

Director Prashanth Neel, who rose to fame with the blockbuster success of 'KGF', has revealed that his first planned collaboration with Hombale Films was a completely different project titled 'Ahvana'. This film was specially written for the late Kannada actor Puneeth Rajkumar, but scheduling conflicts prevented it from moving forward.

The Origin of 'Ahvana'

In a recent interview about his upcoming film 'Dragon' starring Jr NTR, Prashanth Neel shared details about the long-forgotten project. According to a Cinema Express report, 'Ahvana' was actually his first collaboration with the production house that later backed 'KGF'. The director revealed that the film was written exclusively for Puneeth Rajkumar, with the character designed to match the actor's unique personality and screen presence.

Neel believed that Puneeth was the perfect choice for the role and felt that no one else could bring the same charm and emotion to the character. Because of this strong connection, the director always considered 'Ahvana' a very personal project. He wanted to make the film exactly as he had imagined it, with Puneeth in the lead role.

Scheduling Conflicts Derail the Project

Despite the team's enthusiasm, 'Ahvana' could not move forward due to scheduling issues. At that time, Puneeth Rajkumar had already committed to several other films and was occupied with a busy lineup. Finding suitable dates became difficult, and despite multiple efforts, the schedules never matched. As delays continued, 'Ahvana' remained only on paper and never entered production.

The Birth of 'KGF'

After 'Ahvana' fell through, Prashanth Neel met Hombale Films again and narrated a scene from another idea he was developing. That idea eventually became 'KGF'. The makers were impressed by what they heard and decided to back the project, leading to the creation of the blockbuster franchise.

Prashanth Neel admitted that 'Ahvana' was deeply connected to Puneeth Rajkumar. After the actor's untimely passing in October 2021, the director felt that the film also went away with him, as he could never imagine anyone else playing that role. The project remains a poignant memory of a collaboration that never materialized.

Upcoming Project 'Dragon'

Currently, Prashanth Neel is working with Jr NTR on 'Dragon', a highly anticipated film scheduled for release on June 11, 2027. The film marks another major milestone in the director's career, following the success of the 'KGF' series and his previous work.

This revelation about 'Ahvana' sheds light on the director's creative journey and the personal connection he had with Puneeth Rajkumar. It also highlights how unforeseen circumstances can alter the course of a filmmaker's career, leading to unexpected opportunities.
