Punjabi-origin woman dead in Canadian park

Canadian authorities are investigating the death of a 24-year-old childcare educator of Punjabi origin, who was found dead in a park in Barrie, Ontario, just 300 meters from her residence. The deceased has been identified as Anmoldeep Kaur, originally from Akalgarh village in Ludhiana district. She was discovered on Monday morning.

Family notified by Canadian police

Her father, retired Subedar Parminder Singh, stated that the family received a call at 6:15 am on Monday after Canadian police contacted Anmoldeep's brother in the United States. Anmoldeep had moved to Canada on a work permit in December 2021 and had spoken with her family on Friday about her plans to study nursing in Germany. Her roommate reported that she had left for a routine walk shortly before her death.

No foul play suspected

While the cause of death remains unknown, the bereaved father expressed that he does not suspect foul play. “My daughter never complained about anyone,” Singh said, noting that his daughter had often called the family from the same park where she was found dead. A volunteer organization from the family’s native village, Manuke, is assisting with the repatriation of Anmoldeep Kaur’s body, which is expected to reach India next week.

The family is left with memories of her last home visit in November 2023. Her parents had tried for a Canadian visa but failed three times: the Subedar once and his wife twice.
