Actor and filmmaker Raghava Lawrence has officially declared his entry into politics, making the announcement on Friday morning. This development follows speculation that he might contest from the Trichy East Assembly constituency, a seat previously held by his close associate and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay.
Raghava Lawrence Announces Political Entry
Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account, Raghava Lawrence shared a detailed post explaining his decision to enter the political arena. He emphasized that he never aspired to join politics and only wished to support a trusted individual and collaborate for societal betterment.
His post read: “I never imagined entering politics. I never had any intention of earning money or seeking a seat. My only thought was that if someone I believed in and close to me entered politics, I would stand by them and work alongside them to serve society on a larger scale than I was already doing as an individual.”
He added, “Today, circumstances have brought me to a point where I need to enter politics.”
Lawrence also revealed that he would disclose his political plans after gathering public opinion. In a video message posted at 10 am, he urged people to share their views on his decision.
Filmmaker Asks for Advice and Support
Raghava Lawrence stated, “Do your duty sincerely, without expecting anything in return. After watching this video, please share your advice and guidance in the comments. If you say ‘No,’ I will not enter politics and will continue my selfless service to society. But if you say ‘Yes,’ I am ready to enter politics. I will reveal when and with whom I intend to start this journey with all your blessings.”
Notably, Lawrence has not yet announced his party affiliation or confirmed whether he will contest from Trichy East.
Raghava Lawrence’s Political Move Linked with Vijay
Interestingly, Lawrence’s political announcement coincides with reports suggesting he could contest from the Trichy East Assembly seat. The seat became vacant after Vijay decided to relinquish it. Vijay had contested from both Trichy East and Perambur in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections held on April 23. He won both seats but later had to choose one, as a candidate cannot hold two Assembly seats. Vijay opted to continue with Perambur.
