Kochi: Film director Ranjith has approached the Ernakulam first class judicial magistrate court seeking a relaxation in the bail conditions imposed on him in a sexual harassment case. The director, who was arrested on March 31 following a complaint by an actress, has filed a petition requesting permission to leave Ernakulam district. According to sources, Ranjith cited health issues as the primary reason for his plea.
Court Seeks Police Response
The court, after considering the petition, has asked the police to submit their response regarding the proposed relaxation. The case stems from an alleged incident that took place on January 30, during the shooting of a film. The complainant accused Ranjith of inappropriate behavior inside a caravan on the movie set.
Bail Conditions Imposed Earlier
Ranjith was granted bail by the Ernakulam magistrate court with stringent conditions. These included appearing before the investigating officer every Monday for three months, not leaving Ernakulam district without permission, surrendering his passport, avoiding the location of the alleged incident, and appearing before the investigating officer whenever required. The director has maintained that the accusations against him are false and baseless.
The court is expected to hear the matter further after receiving the police report. The case has drawn significant attention in the Malayalam film industry and beyond.
