Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has launched a scathing attack on the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) after the body announced a ban on actor Ranveer Singh. Varma termed the FWICE's action as a "big fat joke" and questioned the legitimacy of such a move.
Varma's Strong Reaction
In a series of tweets, Varma expressed his disbelief at the ban, stating that the FWICE has no authority to stop an actor from working. He wrote, "FWICE banning Ranveer Singh is a big fat joke. Who are they to ban anyone? They are just a bunch of people who think they can dictate terms." Varma further added that the film industry should not take such decisions seriously.
Background of the Ban
The FWICE had earlier announced a ban on Ranveer Singh for his alleged misconduct during the filming of "83". The body claimed that Singh had violated the code of conduct and misbehaved with the crew. However, Singh's team has denied these allegations, calling them baseless.
Industry Reactions
Varma is not the only one to question the FWICE's decision. Several other filmmakers and actors have also come out in support of Ranveer Singh, criticizing the ban as unfair and unwarranted. The controversy has sparked a debate about the role of such bodies in the film industry.
Varma's outburst is seen as a reflection of the growing discontent among filmmakers against the FWICE's actions. He has urged the industry to stand united against what he calls "bullying tactics".
