Actress Rhea Chakraborty has opened up about the challenging period following the demise of Sushant Singh Rajput. In a recent interview, she reflected on her arrest by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in 2020, her time in jail, and the support system that helped her through the turbulent phase.
Drawing Parallels with Aryan Khan
During the conversation, Rhea spoke about reaching out to Aryan Khan when he faced a media storm years later. She revealed that watching his ordeal brought back painful memories. “When I saw what Aryan was going through, it took me back because it was spectacularly similar. In fact, more than my story, it looked a lot like Showik’s story. They also have a resemblance. It was very, very hard to watch,” she said. Rhea added that she refrained from speaking to the media multiple times and continues to do so.
Support from Friends and Family
Rhea acknowledged the people who stood by her despite facing criticism. “I had a bunch of close friends who stood by me. At the time, it was not cool to support me. Anyone who supported me used to get trolled and lose job opportunities. It was miserable for them. Shibani, Nidhi, Anisha, Samisha, and Anusha, my girlfriends, really held fort,” she shared.
She also credited actors Saqib Saleem and Huma Qureshi for supporting her family when she and her brother Showik were in jail. “Saqib supported my parents a lot when Showik and I were in jail. I have been blessed to have these people in my life. If you have one true friend, that is enough to go through anything,” she said.
Current Outlook on Public Attention
Rhea admitted that she now prefers to avoid unnecessary interactions and scrutiny. “I do not want people to ask me anything. If you see me on the road, ignore me. Act like I am not there and just go,” she stated.
Background of the Case
Rhea’s life changed dramatically after Sushant Singh Rajput’s death in June 2020. As his then-girlfriend, she became the center of a highly publicized investigation and faced relentless media attention. In September 2020, the NCB arrested her after recovering WhatsApp chats allegedly linked to drug peddlers. Although she was later granted bail, the case had a lasting impact on her personal and professional life, with travel restrictions remaining in place for an extended period.
