A 32-year-old postgraduate student at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) was discovered dead at his residence in Kathal More on Saturday, according to police. The deceased has been identified as Dr Sanu Sanal Barwar, a first-year surgery postgraduate student and son of the late Dr Himanshu Shekhar, former director of the health department.

No Signs of Foul Play

Police reported that the forensic science laboratory team, which examined the room, found no indications of suicide or murder. Barwar’s house was locked when his driver arrived to wake him for duty. After receiving no response, duplicate keys were brought from his family, who reside in another locality in the city, to open the door.

Investigation Underway

Officer-in-charge of Nagri police station, Praveen Kumar, stated, “Police recovered the body and sent it to RIMS for post-mortem examination. The exact cause of death will be determined only after the report is received.”

Recent Tragedies at RIMS

Dr Jitendra Kumar, president of the RIMS junior doctors’ association, expressed sorrow, noting, “It is sad that two talented students have passed away in 14 days. On May 16, an MBBS second-year student was found hanging in his room in a RIMS hostel.” The incident has raised concerns among the medical community about student welfare.
