Sabrina Carpenter has been granted a temporary restraining order against a 31-year-old man accused of stalking her and attempting to enter her Los Angeles residence, according to court records. The singer stated that William Applegate repeatedly appeared near her Hollywood Hills home before approaching her front door on May 23 and trying to force it open. Carpenter informed the court that the alleged conduct caused her "severe and ongoing emotional distress."
Details of the Restraining Order
The Daily Mail reported that Carpenter sought protection after weeks of alleged stalking behavior. The Guardian also noted that a Los Angeles County court issued the temporary order on Monday, prohibiting Applegate from coming within 100 yards of Carpenter, her home, her workplace, and her vehicle.
In her declaration, Carpenter stated that she does not know Applegate and does not wish to have any contact with him. She accused him of parking near her home starting around April 20, with each visit bringing him closer to the property.
The situation escalated on May 23, when Applegate allegedly entered a neighbor's property to bypass security fencing. Court documents indicate that he then reached Carpenter's front door and attempted to open it.
A Ring camera captured the incident. Applegate allegedly pushed down on the door handle, rang the bell, and knocked. When a security guard confronted him, he allegedly refused to leave and claimed that Carpenter was expecting him.
Carpenter's Response to the Stalking Incident
Carpenter called that claim "outrageous and entirely false" in the court filing. She also described the incident as "among the most disturbing violations of personal safety and privacy I have ever experienced."
Los Angeles police later arrested Applegate on suspicion of misdemeanor trespassing. Carpenter said he returned to the area days later.
LAPD Detective Peter Doomanis supported Carpenter's request for protection. He stated that Applegate had "developed a disturbing and irrational fixation on" the singer and described the pattern as consistent with escalating stalking behavior.
Carpenter also wrote, "His delusional insistence that he knows me and was expected by me is indicative of a dangerous, delusional and irrational fixation on me."
A civil harassment hearing was scheduled for June 17. Applegate also faces a separate criminal court hearing on June 18 related to the trespassing arrest.
