The Great Indian Kapil Show recently returned with a special episode featuring Samay Raina and Ranveer Allahabadia. This marked the first time Ranveer and Samay appeared together on a show after their involvement in the India's Got Latent controversy. The episode was highly entertaining, with Samay Raina and Kapil Sharma in full form. However, the highlight was when Kapil Sharma invited Sunil Pal to join them on stage.
On-Screen Banter Goes Viral
The on-screen banter between Samay and Sunil quickly went viral, with many viewers feeling that Sunil was invited only to be joked about. Samay took several digs at Sunil Pal. During one segment, Samay joked, “Sir, I have no issues with you except one—why don’t you brush your teeth?” He continued to mock Sunil, saying, “Mujhe Sunil bhai ek number lagte hain, Dus mein se.” When Kapil quizzed Sunil about arriving at his movie's premiere in chappals, Samay replied, “Ye humesha chappal mein ghoomte hain, joota toh inko pad jaata hai kahin se (He always wears flip-flops. He only sees shoes when they are thrown at him.)” Samay added, “He (Sunil Pal) has said so many things about us. My mom would be proud of me this time.”
Audience and Panel Reactions
While Navjot Singh Sidhu and Archana Puran Singh laughed at the jokes, some people online felt the jokes crossed the line and were insulting. The veteran comedian Sunil Pal has now responded to the criticism, stating that he did not find the exchange disrespectful.
Sunil Pal's Response
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Sunil stated, “I didn’t take it as humiliation because it was a comedy show. Pulling each other’s leg is part of the format. If someone appears before you, you don’t harm them—you joke around. I made punchlines on him, and he did the same.” He added that if the setting had been serious, he might have reacted differently, but in comedy, even superstars like Shah Rukh Khan are not spared.
Sunil further clarified that he already knew about Samay Raina being on the show and had no personal problems with him. “It’s not a personal beef. It’s a difference of opinion—not just with Samay, but with many Gen-Z comedians who rely on abusive language. When you have talent, education, and access to platforms, your content should be better, not crass.”
Even during his appearance on The Great Indian Kapil Show, Sunil Pal expressed his dislike for Samay's comedy. He said, “It would have been better if he had thrown grenades from his mouth, because what actually comes out of him is unbearable. And joh samajh mein nahi aata woh samaj mein nahi aata, so anyone who doesn't belong in society is basically a terrorist.”
Samay Raina Hits Back
Samay Raina, in turn, hit back at Sunil Pal on the Kapil show, causing the audience to erupt in laughter. The exchange highlighted the ongoing differences between traditional and modern comedy styles in India.
