Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt appeared before the National Commission for Women (NCW) on Tuesday to tender an unconditional apology for the controversial song 'Sarke Chunar' from his upcoming film. The song had sparked widespread outrage for its allegedly vulgar lyrics and depiction of women.
NCW Summons Actor
The NCW had summoned Sanjay Dutt after receiving multiple complaints against the song, which was released earlier this month. The commission deemed the lyrics and visuals as derogatory towards women and in violation of the dignity of women as per the Constitution.
Apology Accepted
During the hearing, Dutt expressed remorse and said that the song was never intended to hurt anyone's sentiments. He assured the commission that such content would not be repeated in future projects. The NCW accepted his apology and closed the matter.
The controversy had erupted soon after the song's release, with social media users and women's rights groups criticizing it for objectifying women. Several petitions were also filed demanding a ban on the song.
Sanjay Dutt's legal team stated that the actor respects the commission and the sentiments of women across the country. The film's producers also issued a statement apologizing for any unintended offense.
