Kolkata: The security aide of former Kolkata mayor and ex-MLA Sovan Chatterjee has been arrested on charges of molesting the minor daughter of his close associate, police confirmed on Tuesday. The accused, identified as Sanju Sharma, was taken into custody following a complaint lodged at the Rabindra Sarobar Police Station.
Details of the Incident
According to the complaint filed by the woman, who is a close associate of Chatterjee, Sharma molested her 16-year-old daughter at his residence. The woman also alleged that she was physically assaulted when she attempted to intervene and rescue her child. The incident reportedly occurred several days ago when the woman and her daughter were present at the apartment where Sharma was also staying.
Background of the Accused
Sources revealed that the woman and her daughter had been living at Sharma's residence for several years. Sharma had been serving as Chatterjee's security guard for an extended period. The complainant further alleged that Sharma had recently been found intoxicated while on duty. Despite repeated warnings from Chatterjee and multiple confrontations with the woman regarding his unacceptable behavior, no improvement was observed.
Sequence of Events
The incident unfolded when Sharma allegedly molested and assaulted the minor girl. Upon hearing her cries, the mother rushed to the spot and confronted him. During the ensuing altercation, she was allegedly beaten up by Sharma. The mother then promptly approached the police and filed a formal complaint.

Based on the complaint, a case was registered against Sanju Sharma under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
