Kolkata: A security aide of former Kolkata mayor and ex-MLA Sovan Chatterjee was arrested after being accused of molesting the minor daughter of his associate, police said on Wednesday.
Arrest and Complaint
The accused, identified as Sanju Sharma, was arrested following a complaint lodged at the Rabindra Sarobar Police Station by the close associate of Chatterjee. The complaint alleged that Sharma molested her minor daughter and also physically assaulted her when she attempted to intervene.
Background of the Case
According to sources, the woman had been living with her daughter at Chatterjee's residence for several years. Sharma had been serving as Chatterjee's security guard for a long time. The complainant claimed that the accused had recently been found in an intoxicated condition while on duty. Despite repeated warnings from Chatterjee and several confrontations with the woman over his behavior, no improvement was seen, she alleged.
Incident Details
The incident took place some days ago. The woman and her daughter were at the apartment where Sharma was also present. The complaint alleges that Sharma molested and assaulted the girl. Hearing her cries, the mother rushed to the spot and confronted him. She was allegedly beaten up during the altercation.
Police Action
A case was registered on the basis of the complaint, and Sharma was subsequently arrested. Police have launched an investigation into the allegations. Further details are awaited.
