Thiruvambady Devaswom Offers Rs 5 Lakh to Families of Deceased Staff

Thrissur: The Thiruvambady Devaswom has decided to provide compensation to the families of those who lost their lives in the recent explosion at a fireworks unit in Mundathikode, Thrissur. Devaswom secretary K Gireeshkumar announced that five individuals directly associated with the Devaswom were killed in the incident, which occurred while preparing fireworks for the Thiruvambady side display during the Pooram festival.

Compensation Details

The families of all five deceased staff members will receive Rs 5 lakh each. Additionally, the family of the fireworks display contractor, Mundathikode Satheesan, who also died in the explosion, will be given Rs 5 lakh. For the remaining 10 staff members who lost their lives in the blast, the Devaswom has allocated Rs 2 lakh per family. Gireeshkumar further stated that injured individuals will receive support based on the severity of their injuries.

Announcement at Memorial Meeting

These announcements were made during a meeting organized jointly by various organizations on Sunday to pay homage to those killed in the April 21 incident. Prior to this, the state government had announced a compensation of Rs 14 lakh each to the families of the deceased. The central government also pledged Rs 2 lakh per family. Union Minister of State Suresh Gopi announced an additional Rs 1 lakh each from a trust established in his daughter's name. Several private institutions and individuals have also announced various sums of compensation.
