Chennai: Two people lost their lives in separate road accidents in the Tambaram area on Tuesday. The incidents occurred at different locations within a few hours, leaving the local community in shock.

First accident: Woman killed by city bus

In the first incident, Muthulakshmi, 65, a resident of Puthu Perungalathur, was fatally run over by a city bus at the Perungalathur bus stand. According to police, an MTC bus (route number 118 B) traveling from Tambaram towards Maraimalai Nagar lost control and rammed into her. The elderly woman was trapped under the wheels of the bus and died on the spot due to severe injuries. The bus driver, Saravanan, 54, has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Second accident: Man killed by two-wheeler

In a separate accident, Achyutre Pujari, 47, a native of Odisha, was killed after being hit by a two-wheeler. The incident took place near a mosque in Reddikuppam when he was attempting to cross the road. He died on the spot due to the impact. Police arrested the two-wheeler rider, Datturayan, 64, of Injambakkam, and registered a case. Investigations are underway in both cases.
